We are so used to doing ("getting shit done" as we call it at TimeXtender) - our yang.

And that's a good thing.

Being busy releases adrenaline and cortisol, which keep us going in demanding situations. However, yang cannot do without the yin. We need to calm down our nervous system and stay present to keep going. Our yin and yang need to interact to provide us with two fundamental forms of energy (source: "12 minutes to succes" by Henning Daverne). That's why our weekly "Recharge Yourself" sessions at TimeXtender are all about being - our yin. It's something we choose to practice in order to keep our balance, focus and power.

Yang power gives us:

  • The ability to act
  • Masculinity
  • The ability to use power against power
  • Higher metabolism
  • Activity
  • Power and exertion
  • Fire
  • Fight and flight
  • Stress
  • Thinking mind
  • Active body
  • Active mind

Yin power gives us:

  • The ability to just be
  • Femininity
  • Substance
  • Lightness and simplicity
  • Water
  • Rest and digestion
  • Rejuvenation
  • Observing mind
  • Relaxed body
  • Silent mind

In the western world, we mainly make use of yang power.

But by prioritizing to connect to our yin by practicing mindfulness and meditation, we are learning to reconnecting with ourselves in high pressure situations (and in life in general) to stay balanced and limitless as human beings.

In this short video, Tobias Eld, our Chief Services Officer, talks about what is in it for him in his mindfulness practice:

Do you practice mindfulness in your life and work? What do you get out of it?
